6-12 hours per month Job Overview We are seeking a reliable, responsible, and safety-focused On-Call Field Trip Driver to join our transportation team. In this role, you will operate a 15-passenger mini-bus to transport students and chaperones to local destinations such as museums, parks, activity centers, and occasional school events. This low-commitment position is ideal for independent contractors, or anyone with flexible weekday availability who is looking for supplemental income. Trips are generally scheduled in advance during school hours—typically between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.—and average two trips per month, with each trip lasting approximately three to five hours. Additional driving opportunities may occasionally be available. Duties and Responsibilities Safely transport students and chaperones to and from scheduled field trips and school events. Operate the mini-bus in accordance with traffic laws, applicable transportation regulations, and school safety policies. Complete brief pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections. Coordinate with teachers and chaperones to help ensure students remain seated and properly buckled while the vehicle is moving. Respond calmly and responsibly to traffic changes, route adjustments, or unexpected situations. Refuel the vehicle after trips when required. Ensure the passenger cabin is clean, orderly, and free of trash following each trip. Promptly report vehicle concerns, safety issues, incidents, or accidents to the appropriate school representative. Requirements and Qualifications In accordance with applicable requirements, including Texas Transportation Code § 521.022, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
Age:
Must be at least 18 years old.
Driver's License:
Must possess a valid Texas Class C Driver's License and maintain a clean driving record.
Driving Record Check:
Must pass an annual motor vehicle record review. Applicants may be disqualified for DWI, intoxication assault, or related convictions occurring within the previous 10 years.
Background Check:
Must successfully complete a required pre-employment criminal history check.
Medical Fitness:
Must pass an annual state-approved, DOT-style physical and vision examination.
Safety Training:
Must possess or be willing to obtain an approved 20-hour Texas School Bus Safety Education certificate. The certification card is valid for three years, and training support will be provided. Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and sound judgment. Ability to communicate professionally with students, school staff, chaperones, and families. Ability to remain calm and make safety-focused decisions in unexpected or stressful situations. Previous experience driving a bus, van, or other passenger vehicle is preferred but not required.
