Job Overview Join our team as a School Bus Driver and become a vital part of ensuring safe, reliable transportation for students. Duties Safely operate school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vehicles according to established routes and schedules. Ensure passenger safety by following all traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations. Assist passengers with disabilities or mobility challenges, including wheelchair assistance and behavior management. Conduct pre-trip inspections to verify vehicle condition, including checking brakes, lights, signals, and emergency equipment. Respond quickly to traffic changes or emergencies with appropriate emergency response procedures for transportation. Maintain clear communication with passengers and school staff using effective verbal skills; address student discipline issues professionally. Complete all required documentation such as route logs, incident reports, and vehicle inspection records accurately. Qualifications Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with a school bus endorsement or equivalent certification. Proven experience in bus driving, including school bus driving or transit bus operation. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, and state/local commercial driving laws. Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting passengers or loading equipment safely. First aid certification (including CPR) and familiarity with emergency response procedures for transportation are highly desirable. Experience working with children or in senior care environments is a plus; strong behavior management skills are essential. Excellent communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are an advantage for engaging diverse communities. Demonstrated understanding of student discipline policies and customer service principles. Ability to respond quickly to traffic changes and maintain focus during long routes; strong quick-response skills are vital.
