We are seeking a dedicated and responsible Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Driver to join our transportation team. In this vital role, you will operate various types of vehicles, including school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vehicles, to safely transport passengers of all ages. Your primary goal is to ensure the safe, efficient, and courteous movement of passengers while adhering to all traffic laws and transportation safety regulations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to community mobility, provide exceptional customer service, and promote passenger safety every day. Responsibilities Safely operate commercial vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, or paratransit vans in accordance with state and local laws. Assist passengers with wheelchair assistance and provide support for individuals with special needs or mobility challenges. Follow traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations at all times to ensure passenger and public safety. Conduct pre-trip inspections, routine vehicle maintenance checks, and report any mechanical issues promptly. Respond quickly to traffic changes or emergencies by implementing emergency response procedures for transportation situations. Maintain clear communication with dispatchers, passengers, and team members using effective communication skills in English or multilingual formats as needed. Enforce student discipline policies when transporting minors and manage passenger behavior professionally. Assist with loading and unloading passengers safely, including heavy lifting when necessary for mobility devices or luggage. Follow school policies or organizational guidelines related to behavior management and passenger safety protocols. Complete detailed logs of trips, incidents, and vehicle inspections accurately and promptly. Provide excellent customer service by creating a welcoming environment for passengers of all ages, including seniors or children requiring childcare assistance. Qualifications Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for passenger transport (e.g., P endorsement for passenger vehicles). Proven experience operating buses or similar commercial vehicles; experience working with children or seniors is highly desirable. Knowledge of traffic laws, emergency response procedures for transportation, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations. Ability to perform defensive driving techniques and respond quickly to traffic changes or emergencies. Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities. Physical ability to perform heavy lifting, assist with wheelchair assistance, and conduct vehicle inspections regularly. Familiarity with school bus driving standards, student discipline policies, and behavior management strategies. Mechanical knowledge related to vehicle maintenance is preferred but not required. Excellent customer service skills coupled with patience and professionalism when interacting with passengers of all ages.
