GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Under the direction and supervision of the Director I - Transportation Services and the Assistant Director of Transportation Services, the School Bus Driver performs intermediate semi-skilled support work in the transportation of pupils to and from school and special events; does related work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Operates a school bus on an assigned route and schedule Picks up and transports children to school daily Transports individuals or groups for recreational and social activities Checks equipment and reports defects Washes buses Sweeps out interior of buses and cleans windows Reports accidents May operate special vehicles for transportation of special students
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
General knowledge of the issues involved in operating a school bus General knowledge of the geography of the City and the location of streets Skill in the safe operation of a school bus Ability to detect malfunctioning equipment Ability to assist children using patience and understanding Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, public, associates and students
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED required.
