GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a skilled Bus Driver to join our team. The ideal candidate will safely transport summer camp participants to and from Apple Ridge Farm at 173 Apple Ridge Road, Copper Hill, VA 24079. The designated route includes pickup and drop-off locations within the vicinity of Roanoke. The position reports to the Camp Director & the Executive Director and is paid biweekly on Thursdays.

Rate of Pay:

$20 - $22/hr

Hours:

20-25 hrs, Monday-Thursdays. Split 2 to 3-hour am/pm shifts

Duration:

Week of June 8th (trials).

Camp dates:

June 15- July 23, 2025 ESSENTIAL

JOB FUNCTIONS

• Safely operates a bus across interstate, primary, and mountainous roads.
• Conducts safe and orderly loading and unloading of passengers at specified stops.
• Manage passenger behavior to ensure a safe and pleasant journey
• Communicate effectively with passengers and address any concerns
• Maintain a clean and mechanically sound bus

REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES

Education Required :

Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Experience/ Certifications/ Licenses Preferred :

Experience driving a school bus with passengers.

Preferred:

Experience working with children

Required:

Possess a valid Commercial Driver's License with endorsements for school bus driver. Must have and maintain a Red Cross First Aid and CPR certificate or obtain same after employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Skills:

• Experience working with children is preferred
• Proficient in behavior management techniques
• Ability to communicate effectively with passengers
• Possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record
• Familiarity with school bus driving regulations and procedures
• Mechanical knowledge for essential bus maintenance and troubleshooting is a plus
• Fluency in multiple languages is advantageous for multilingual communication
• Previous experience as a van driver or in a similar role is beneficial Additional Requirements Must be age eighteen (18) or older.

Subject to a complete criminal history and Child Protective Services background search with acceptable results. Following a conditional offer of employment, one must submit to a pre-employment drug screen. Must also be able to perform the job as described in the Physical and Environmental Demands section of this job description. Must supply references. Must complete the Virginia Education Department training curriculum for school bus drivers. Must complete State and County requirements of twenty hours of classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction. Must possess an acceptable driving history verified by a current Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles Driving Record.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
