This energetic position offers the opportunity to foster positive relationships with students while maintaining a high standard of safety and professionalism. As a key member of our transportation team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, adhering to traffic laws and safety regulations, and supporting student well-being during transit. Your dedication will help create a positive experience for students participating in school activities and sports. Duties Safely operate school activity and athletic buses according to all traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations. Transport students to various school-related events, ensuring timely arrivals and departures. Assist students with wheelchair assistance and other mobility needs, ensuring proper safety protocols are followed. Maintain discipline and manage student behavior during transit to ensure a safe environment for all passengers. Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles, including checking fluid levels, brakes, lights, and safety equipment. Respond quickly to traffic changes or emergencies with appropriate driving techniques and emergency response procedures. Communicate effectively with school staff, students, parents, and emergency responders when necessary. Follow school policies on passenger safety, behavior management, and child care standards. Perform heavy lifting when necessary for securing equipment or assisting students with mobility devices. Complete detailed logs of trips, incidents, vehicle maintenance checks, and other required documentation accurately. Requirements Proven experience in bus driving or commercial driving with a valid driver's license appropriate for school bus operation. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations at the state and local levels. Certification in first aid and CPR to respond effectively during emergencies involving students or staff. Experience working with children or in childcare environments is highly preferred. Ability to operate wheelchair lifts and assist students with mobility challenges safely. Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for engaging diverse student populations. Familiarity with emergency stop procedures, defensive driving techniques, and incident response protocols for transportation safety. Physical ability for heavy lifting and prolonged periods of sitting or standing during routes. Knowledge of student discipline policies and behavior management strategies to promote a positive environment onboard buses. Excellent customer service skills to interact professionally with students, parents, staff, and community members. Understanding of school policy guidelines related to student transportation and conduct standards.
