Job Description

Job Summary:
The School Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and reliable transportation of students to and from school, field trips, and other related activities. The bus driver ensures compliance with safety standards, follows designated routes, and maintains positive relationships with students, parents, and school staff. Kobussen Buses is a third-generation, family-owned transportation company with over 1,100 employees throughout the state of Wisconsin.
Key Responsibilities:
Safe Transportation:
Operate a school bus in a safe, professional manner while adhering to all traffic laws and company policies. Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is in proper working order. Follow assigned routes and schedules while ensuring students arrive on time. Implement proper loading and unloading procedures, ensuring student safety at all times.
Student Management:
Maintain order and enforce bus safety rules during transport. Build positive relationships with students while promoting respectful behavior on the bus. Communicate concerns about student conduct to appropriate school and company personnel.
Compliance & Safety:
Follow all company, state, and federal regulations, including Department of Transportation (DOT) and Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) guidelines. Participate in required safety training, including emergency evacuation drills. Promptly report any incidents, accidents, or mechanical issues.
Customer Relations:
Maintain courteous and professional communication with parents, school staff, and the community. Represent the company positively while interacting with clients and passengers.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate records of student counts, route details, and vehicle inspections. Submit required paperwork such as time logs and maintenance reports in a timely manner.
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or GED required. Previous experience in school bus driving, commercial driving, or passenger transportation preferred.
Qualifications:
21+ years old Valid driver's license for past three years Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements ( or be willing to obtain them with company-provided training ). Proven driving experience with a clean driving record. Ability to pass a background check, drug screening, and DOT physical. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Commitment to ensuring student safety and well-being. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment:
Early morning and afternoon split shifts with occasional mid-day or evening assignments. Ability to sit for extended periods and perform moderate lifting. Outdoor work with potential exposure to varying weather conditions.
