Incumbents will follow any other instructions, and perform any other related duties, as may be required. Description Benefits Description Position Summary The Bus Driver is primarily responsible for the operation of CWC's athletic team buses and for the safe and orderly transportation of passengers to and from their destinations. Work includes completion of vehicle inspection, fueling, interior and exterior cleaning of vehicle, maintaining accurate trip records, assisting passengers, and any other related duties as assigned by the Dean of Students. Examples of Duties Essential Duties and Responsibilities Transports athletes to various team activities. Assist in loading and unloading passengers, equipment and luggage on bus to transport in a safe manner. Monitors surroundings and environs to detect hazards and prevent hardship. Monitors activity and behaviors to assure safety; may administer routine discipline as needed to ensure passenger safety. Performs basic maintenance of bus and conducts pre and post-trip inspections; utilizes inspection check list noting condition of various inside and outside conditions, equipment and materials, i.e., bus ID, mirrors, headlights, turn signals, flasher warnings, hazard lights, tire condition, steering, suspension, shocks, brakes, fuel, brake lights, back-up lights, tail lamps, exhaust system, wipers, horn, heaters, defrosters, interior mirrors, parking brake, emergency door buzzer, seating condition, cleanliness, first aid kit, triangle reflectors, fire extinguishers, seat belts, engine operation, etc. Performs other safety checks of vehicles and equipment. Keeps bus clean and completes various travel records, logs, and sign-in sheets as required. Conducts safety and evacuation drills with student passengers; coaches students regarding bus operating features, evacuation procedures, passenger rules and regulations. Operate within the framework established by CWC's policies, procedures, and practices. Perform other reasonably related duties as directed or assigned. Typical Qualifications Position Specifications and Minimum Qualifications Education High school diploma or equivalent Experience Experience driving a commercial vehicle is required. Licenses/Certifications Valid class "B" CDL license with passenger and air brake endorsement with a good driving record and be insurable by the College's insurance carrier. Equivalency Statement Equivalent combinations of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge and awareness of vehicle maintenance scheduling and service requirements Knowledge of safe driving practices and procedures. Knowledge of provisions of the state codes applicable to the operation of busses and the transporting of passengers. Ability to learn and follow college policies and procedures. Ability to relate with a diverse group of people in a professional, helpful manner; Ability to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations Ability to comply with all applicable rules and regulations for safe transit of bus passengers. Ability to maintain and clean bus and ensure a safe operable condition. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. Ability to deliver good customer service. Ability to develop effective working relationships with supervisor, fellow employees and the public. Level of Supervision This position operates under the general supervision of the Dean of Students. Examples include:
Work is performed using standard office equipment and requires the use of an automobile. Physical Requirements Work may be performed in extreme conditions, requires frequent lifting, bending and twisting, and carrying of up to 50 pounds. Work requires acute visual and hearing ability. Tasks require variety of physical activities, which do not generally involve muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, and reaching. Regular talking required in the normal course of performing the job. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required to perform some essential functions. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. o Must pass a post-offer; pre-employment drug and alcohol test and driving record check. Environmental Conditions Work is performed outside of the office and requires frequent & extensive travel. Evening and/or weekend work is required.
