The Union newspaper is looking for a dock assistant. You will work just a few hours in the early morning getting The Union to our local community and other various job duties. Must be able to lift 25-30lbs regularly. A successful candidate will be able to operate a forklift, be very reliable, must have a valid driver's license and be able to work a 5am to 11am shift with flexibility four days (Tuesday-Friday) a week.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS & SKILLS
1. Review daily newspaper delivery manifests and truck loading documents and prepare distribution of newspapers in the appropriate order that is designated by newspaper management 2. Work on the dock, loading newspaper bundles into company trucks. Transport bundles to various locations when necessary. 3. Possible post office, rack and retail deliveries. 4. Rack maintenance, repairs and collections upon management request. 5. Preps, wraps, tags and loads/offloads delivery trucks with pallet jacks and forklifts. 6. Receives shipments, stocks and assists with all warehouse operations. 7. Check daily logs and enter accurate shipping and receiving information. 8. Trained and certified to operate a forklift and pallet jack. Follow proper storage requirements for equipment and supplies. 9. Ability to load and unload. Will include operating a forklift and a pallet jack. 10. Ability to adapt to distribution and delivery schedules. 11. Ability to work with other people and ability to work with little supervision. 12. Support the distribution operations of all publications which will include the delivery of products. 13. Daily Warehouse cleaning - minimum of 15 minutes at the end of shift. 14. Accountable for properly carrying out scheduled and unscheduled assignments, as directed. 15. Must maintain a valid driver's license and minimum liability insurance coverage. 16. Attends and actively participates in scheduled meetings and adheres to Company policies and procedures as well as all federal and state regulations. 17. Demonstrate consistent, proficient work habits. 18. Maintain the dock as a safe work area. 19. Must be able to consistently start work at agreed upon start time and work until the end of your scheduled shift. 20. Must be able to work varying assigned shift hours between 2am - 12pm.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS
Continuous walking, bending, stooping, climbing stairs, and lifting 25-30 pounds. Occasional lifting up to 75 pounds with assistance. Continual use of near/midrange/far range vision as well as depth perception. Ability to adjust to sudden temperature changes (climate-controlled office to outdoor temperature). Position requiresuse of forklift and pallet jacks to move periodicals for distribution.
QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrate the ability to read and write English and perform math functions, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division at a level typically acquired through graduation from high school or equivalent work experience. Must have mechanical ability and basic knowledge of computer systems. Must have dependable transportation to transport news racks, bundles of newspapers and other materials pertaining to the job. Must possess vehicle insurance, a valid California driver's license, a reliable vehicle, and a driving record acceptable under company policy.
