Job Description
Maryland | Washington, DC | Northern Virginia Independent Contractor / Owner-Operator Government Medical Courier Services Position Summary Archie Corporation is building a team of qualified medical courier owner-operators to support scheduled and on-demand laboratory specimen transportation throughout the National Capital Region. Couriers will use their own vehicles to transport laboratory specimens, medical materials, documents, and related items between military treatment facilities and other government locations. This position requires access to Department of Defense installations. Current DBIDS access is preferred. Applicants without DBIDS must be eligible and capable of obtaining required installation access within 30 days. Assignments include scheduled weekday and Saturday routes as well as optional STAT/on-demand coverage. Applicant Tiers Tier 1: Mission Ready Highest-priority applicants. Current DBIDS credential/access Medical or laboratory courier experience Experience entering DoD installations HIPAA training Bloodborne Pathogens training Specimen handling/chain-of-custody experience DOT/HAZMAT and dry-ice training where applicable Reliable personal vehicle Available for immediate assignment Tier 2: DBIDS Ready Strong candidates who require limited onboarding. Current DBIDS credential/access Professional courier or delivery experience Reliable personal vehicle Clean driving history Able to complete required medical courier training before assignment Available for scheduled government routes Tier 3: DBIDS Eligible / 30-Day Ready Applicants entering the government medical courier field. No current DBIDS credential required Must be eligible for DoD installation access Must provide required documentation promptly Must be willing and able to complete the installation access/credentialing process within 30 days Must successfully complete required courier and specimen-handling training before independent route assignment Reliable personal vehicle Clean driving history Dependable professional work history Appointment to a Tier 3 position does not guarantee installation access. Final access authorization remains subject to applicable government vetting and installation requirements.
Primary Responsibilities Couriers will:
Pick up and deliver laboratory specimens and medical materials Follow established pickup and delivery schedules Maintain specimen integrity throughout transportation Maintain required chain-of-custody documentation Follow HIPAA/privacy requirements Follow applicable specimen and dry-ice handling procedures Obtain required signatures and delivery documentation Maintain communication with Archie Corporation dispatch Immediately report delays, accidents, vehicle problems, access issues, or missed pickups Comply with military installation security and vehicle-access requirements Provide professional and reliable service at military and government facilities Support STAT/emergency deliveries when assigned Service Area Routes may include: Bethesda, MD Fort Meade, MD Joint Base Andrews, MD Indian Head, MD Patuxent River, MD Baltimore, MD Fort Belvoir, VA Fairfax, VA Dumfries, VA Fort Myer, VA Dahlgren, VA Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, DC Washington Navy Yard, DC Fort McNair, DC Pentagon/Arlington, VA The government requirement includes routes throughout Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC, including several of these military facilities. Vehicle Requirements Owner-operators must provide their own vehicle.

Sedan Hatchback SUV Minivan Small cargo van Vehicle must be clean, reliable, roadworthy, and have an enclosed area suitable for secure transport.

Scheduled routes 24/7/365: Optional STAT/on-demand opportunities Some routes begin as early as 8:00 AM. Other routes continue into the late afternoon. Route C specifically requires two drivers, and the solicitation includes separate 24/7/365 on-demand requirements. Applicants should identify the days and times they are available. Compensation Estimated $150-$275+ per completed route/day depending on route length, duration, mileage, requirements, and assignment. STAT and on-demand assignments may be compensated separately. Owner-operators are responsible for their own: Vehicle Fuel Maintenance Tires Tolls unless otherwise authorized Insurance Taxes Normal vehicle operating expenses Exact compensation will be established for each assigned route before work begins. Applicants without current DBIDS access must be willing and eligible to complete all applicable identity verification, background vetting, sponsorship, documentation, and installation-access requirements. Selected applicants must be capable of completing required installation-access processing within 30 days of notification. Failure to obtain required installation access may make an owner-operator ineligible for routes requiring DoD installation access.
