The In-House Driver/Courier is responsible for the timely, accurate, and safe transportation of medications, supplies, and documents between pharmacy locations and partner facilities. This role plays an important part in supporting daily pharmacy operations and maintaining efficient workflow across locations. The position requires strict adherence to HIPAA regulations, patient confidentiality standards, and all company safety policies. This position will utilize a company-owned vehicle for deliveries. The vehicle will remain at a designated pharmacy location and is not authorized for take-home use.
Schedule & Compensation:
Non-exempt, hourly position Anticipated schedule: Monday through Friday, approximately 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Compensation range: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record for the past three years. Due to the nature of the role and access to protected information, professionalism, reliability, and confidentiality are essential. Staff will receive an SMP-branded apparel allowance on a quarterly basis as part of our professional appearance and team recognition program.Essential Functions:
Transport prescriptions, medical supplies, and pharmacy paperwork between facilities and pharmacy locations. Maintain and submit delivery logs, mileage records, and documentation as required. Communicate with pharmacy staff to coordinate efficient routes and notify of any delivery issues or delays. Follow all safety, HIPAA, and operational protocols. Travel within an approximate 2-hour radius of the home pharmacy location. Use personal vehicle for deliveries and maintain fuel, cleanliness, and functionality. Represent the organization in a professional and courteous manner at all times.Qualifications:
MS Word, Teams, and Outlook experience Valid driver's license and personal auto insurance, required. Reliable personal vehicle in good working order. Good driving record with safe, responsible habits. Strong communication, reliability, and time management skills. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and manage delivery bins or totes. Maintain focus and multitask in a busy environment. Organizational skills are sufficient to maintain consistently accurate records. Ability to evaluate options and to make efficient decisions. Computer skills that include proficiency with spreadsheets and use of the internet, as well as word processing, and efficient use of the internet and e-mail. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit, as well as talk and hear. The employee is required to use hands to operate vehicles and office equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.Education and Experience:
High School Diploma/GED required 2+ years of healthcare / HIPAA experience preferred Prior experience in delivery, logistics, or transportation is a plus. Experience in healthcare, pharmacies, or customer service environments helpful.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills Punctual and detail-oriented with a strong sense of accountability. Good route planning and ability to adapt to unexpected changes. Proficient in basic recordkeeping and data entry. Maintains confidentiality and professionalism at all times. Strong customer service and communication skills when interacting with partner facilities and internal staff.
