Landscape Supply - Sales & Yard Operations
Job Description
Chips Groundcover serves as a premier source of landscaping supplies through multiple retail locations in West Michigan. We partner with residents, businesses, and contractors to create beautiful outdoor spaces and festive Christmas displays. Join our team today! We work in 2 primary seasons: Landscape Supply and Professional Christmas Lighting Installation. In the Spring and Summer we stay very busy serving customers by supplying landscaping goods (no back-breaking installation work!). In the Fall and Winter we serve clients with installation and takedown of amazing Christmas Light displays (we call them Christmascapes!). The work is split indoors and outdoors, is fast paced, and diverse. Our current need is to help install Christmascape displays and begin training for landscape yard operations.
The Customer Service:
Yard Operation Role is responsible for the daily operations, safety, customer service, inventory management, and equipment oversight, of a landscape yard. This position ensures efficient operations while maintaining a safe, organized, and customer-focused environment. Essential Responsibilities Operations Management Oversee daily yard, retail, and delivery operations. Ensure products are stocked, organized, and accurately displayed. Monitor material inventory levels and communicate replenishment needs. Coordinate incoming and outgoing deliveries. Maintain orderly, clean, and professional yard appearance. Ensure opening and closing procedures are completed properly. Assist with scheduling and staffing to meet customer demand. Customer Service Ensure customers receive prompt, professional, and knowledgeable service. Resolve customer concerns and complaints effectively. Assist customers with product selection and project recommendations. Support sales efforts and help maintain strong customer relationships. Inventory & Material Management Monitor inventory levels of bulk materials, bagged products, hardscapes, and related supplies. Verify incoming deliveries and inventory transfers. Minimize product loss, waste, and shrinkage. Assist with inventory counts and audits. Ensure proper material storage and segregation. Equipment & Facility Oversight Monitor condition and utilization of loaders, forklifts, trucks, trailers, and other equipment. Coordinate routine maintenance and repairs. Report equipment issues promptly. Ensure facilities, bins, buildings, and grounds are maintained in safe condition. Monitor fuel, maintenance, and operating costs. Safety & Compliance Promote a strong safety culture. Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. Conduct safety inspections and address hazards. Investigate incidents and assist with corrective actions. Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Administrative Duties Complete operational reports and documentation accurately. Monitor labor efficiency and overtime. Assist with budgeting and cost control initiatives. Maintain communication with ownership and management regarding operational issues, staffing needs, inventory concerns, and customer feedback. Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent. Strong customer service skills. Ability to operate or learn operation of loaders, forklifts, and related equipment. Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Preferred Landscape supply, construction materials, agricultural, trucking, or related industry experience. Knowledge of mulch, soil, stone, aggregates, and hardscape materials. Experience with inventory management and dispatching. Chauffeur's License or CDL.
