In this energetic role, you will operate various types of vehicles to transport individuals with developmental disabilities and mobility challenges to appointments, school, or community activities. Your dedication will ensure passengers arrive safely and on time while delivering excellent customer service with a positive attitude. Responsibilities Safely operate vehicles including transit buses or specialized transport vans in accordance with traffic laws and transportation safety regulations. Assist passengers with wheelchair assistance, loading and unloading heavy or bulky items, and ensuring their comfort and safety during transit. Follow all emergency response procedures for transportation, including CPR and first aid when necessary, to handle unexpected situations effectively. Maintain clear communication with passengers using effective verbal skills and ensure they understand safety instructions and route information. Conduct vehicle inspections before and after trips to ensure proper functioning, cleanliness, and compliance with vehicle codes. Respond quickly to traffic changes or road hazards to ensure timely arrivals while prioritizing passenger safety at all times. Requirements Valid driver's license appropriate for the vehicle type being operated, including commercial or school bus licenses if applicable. Proven experience in transit bus operation or transit van driving preferred; experience working with children or developmentally care is a plus. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and state/local commercial driving laws. Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting passengers or loading equipment safely. Strong communication skills in English for effective interaction with passengers, dispatchers, and team members. Certification in first aid and CPR is highly desirable; knowledge of emergency stop procedures is essential. Ability to respond quickly to traffic changes and adapt driving plans accordingly while maintaining professionalism under pressure.
