We have a direct hire opening for a UAS Test Pilot in Byron, CA, at an innovative aerospace company developing large hybrid-electric cargo drones for commercial and DoD logistics. This is a 1st shift opening! In this role, you will fly a 2,000-pound, 26-foot radio-controlled hybrid-electric VTOL aircraft during experimental flight tests to evaluate performance, control, and stability. You will serve as the human safety pilot during flight testing while the autonomous flight system handles most of the flight. The aircraft is actively flying and has already demonstrated vertical takeoff and landing, forward flight, and autonomous cargo delivery. UAS Test Pilot:

Act as the safety pilot during experimental flight tests, using a handheld RC controller and remaining ready to manually take control of the aircraft if needed. Monitor autonomous flight operations in real time and provide feedback on aircraft handling, control response, stability, and maneuvering. Participate in flight readiness reviews before testing to understand software, Guidance, Navigation, and Control, and other aircraft updates that may affect the flight. Prepare detailed flight test plans and test cards that outline specific maneuvers, scenarios, flight conditions, and test objectives. Participate in post-flight reviews by helping analyze flight data and providing pilot feedback on how the aircraft looked and felt during the flight. The flight testing work involves both the full-scale aircraft and smaller subscale aircraft used to test software, controls, and new concepts before they are introduced onto the full-scale prototype. Help build, repair, integrate, and flight test subscale aircraft weighing less than 55 pounds. Operate from the ground or from the platform on top of the Ground Control Station trailer while maintaining visibility of the aircraft and surrounding airspace. Wear a headset and communicate continuously with the Ground Control Station team during flight operations. Work closely with the flight test team, Guidance, Navigation, and Control engineers, Flight Software engineers, and other engineering groups throughout aircraft development and testing. Help update flight procedures, manuals, test documentation, and other technical documents based on flight-test results and pilot feedback. The flight testing schedule varies throughout the development cycle. The team may fly once a week or every other week, and some tests involve travel for customer demonstrations. UAS Test Pilot:

Have experience as a primary test pilot with flying large radio-controlled aircraft or military-grade UAS in the 500-1,000+ lb range (fixed-wing, helicopter, or multi-rotor) FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate and FAA Part 61 pilot certification required Comfortable working outdoors multiple days per week in various weather conditions Physically able to climb ladders and stand on elevated platforms during flight tests Strong familiarity with FAA General Operating and Flight Rules (14 CFR Part 91) preferred Ability to travel approximately 15% of the time for customer demonstrations and remote flight testing Ability to adapt quickly to changing flight scenarios, operational priorities, and test schedules Experience operating aircraft systems in research and development environments preferred
