• Peer Recovery Specialist Job Description Role and Responsibilities:

• Under the administrative supervision of the executive director, the Peer Recovery Specialist position is responsible for assisting members in meeting their expressed goals toward crisis resolution and maintaining wellness.

Additional support in areas of advocacy and the connection to local resources will be provided as needed. This direct service position is paid and at-will. The position will utilize lived experience perspectives and training to support patient care. The peer specialist will provide an avenue for active listening and provide messages of hope and recovery.

• Duties and Responsibilities

• Supports and teaches recovery principles and use of recovery tools
• Models' personal responsibility, self-advocacy and hopefulness
• In partnership with each patient, assesses their hopes, strengths, accomplishments and challenges in order to support patient's stated goals.
• In partnership with participant supports the development of their recovery plan
• Responsible for supporting participants in wellness activities
• Provides "on-the-spot" support that is both helpful to the members and consistent with the philosophy of the program.
• Responsible for completing/facilitating items during health visits.
• Ensures health and safety practices are met
• Supports the philosophy of empowerment, participates in a mutual learning approach
• Attends team meetings as scheduled
• Completes necessary paperwork as instructed by the executive director
• Supports patients in developing reciprocal relationships and natural support systems to strengthen self-sufficiency
• Adheres to and upholds the policies and procedures of Z.W.G.

• MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES

• Education, Training and Experience:

• A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is through graduation from High School or completion of the GED program.

Varied life experience related to mental health.

Education:

• High school or equivalent (Required)
• Licenses; Certificates;

Special Requirements:

• Virginia driver's license & current vehicle insurance/registration if driving; and,
• Reliable means of transportation capable of passing vehicle safety inspection if more than five years old and excluding all modes of two-wheeled transport inclusive of bicycles, mopeds, and motorcycles.
• Peer recovery support specialists must be willing to be trained in first aid and cardiopulmonary arrest (CPR).

License/Certification:

• Driver's License (Required)
• CPRS Registration (Must Obtain in 30 days) (Preferred)
