Locomotive Engineer Location:
SSAB Site - Axis, Alabama Career Opportunity Join one of the largest industrial railroad operations on the Gulf Coast. TMS International is seeking safety-focused railroad professionals to support rail operations at the SSAB steel mill in Axis, Alabama. Candidates with previous railroad experience will receive first hiring consideration. This position offers competitive pay, comprehensive benefits, paid training, and dual certification opportunities. Preferred Qualifications First preference will be given to candidates with previous railroad experience including Conductor, Locomotive Engineer, Class I, Short Line, or Industrial Railroad operations, switching, air brakes, train handling, and railcar inspections. Training and Certification Selected employees will be trained and qualified as both Railroad Conductors and Locomotive Engineers. Paid training, classroom instruction, field mentoring, operational qualification, and certification testing will be provided by TMS International. Responsibilities Perform switching operations safely and efficiently Protect train and locomotive movements Line and secure switches Couple and uncouple railcars Apply and release hand brakes Conduct railcar and locomotive inspections Operate locomotives when qualified Follow company safety rules and operating procedures Work in a heavy industrial steel mill environment Support customer service and production requirements Hiring Philosophy Railroad experience is strongly preferred and will receive first hiring consideration; however, exceptional candidates from manufacturing, logistics, heavy equipment, military, mining, and other industrial backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
