Alaska Response Corporation is currently recruiting for a Licensed Mate to work offshore within Cook Inlet, Alaska. Our company is responsible for providing oil spill response services within Cook Inlet and portions of the Gulf of Alaska, as well as providing offshore supply services to our Members.

Position Summary:

The Mate will be committed toward working safely given the dynamic work location and varying conditions that are part of this business. The Mate will report to the Vessel Operations Manager and the Vessel Captain and will assist the Captain in communicating and enforcing all company policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate commitment and fosters a culture of safety onboard all Company vessels by ensuring proper safety procedures are followed by all Company employees.
• Assist and support the vessel crew as directed by the Captain in support of the vessel preventative maintenance program.
• Inspect gear and lifesaving equipment and directs crew to repair or replace defective equipment.
• Directs activities of crew engaged in cleaning and painting of vessels.
• Stands watch during specified periods.
• Ensure crew members are provided with information to adhere to Maritime Regulations.
• Direct crew in recordkeeping and regular safety drills.
• Supervise crewmembers in their onboard duties.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Required Qualifications:

• 500 GRT, Upon open waters or near coastal water, SCTW, Towing and Radar Observer endorsements.
• Merchant Mariner Credential and Sea Service documentation
• TWIC Card
• First Aid / CPR / Medical Card
• Basic Safety Training and Lifeboatman Certificates
• Must be able to read, speak and understand English
• Skilled in Microsoft Office products, including

Excel, Outlook and Word Preferred Qualifications:

• Oil spill response experience preferred.
• Cook Inlet, Alaska experience preferred
• High school Diploma or GED is preferred
• Team player, but able to work independently
• Safety oriented, self-motivated, professional demeanor
• Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, and strong work ethic

Work Schedule:

The Mate will work a 28-day rotating schedule. Change out and crew rotation days would typically be scheduled for Monday. Employees residing in Central Peninsula area are preferred, however employees living elsewhere will be responsible for their transportation to and from Kenai, Alaska.
