A Sailor, Deckhand, or Marine Oiler operates boats and equipment on boats and manages sails on sailboats. Performs a variety of manual labor tasks on boats and cargo vessels, including hauling goods, operating equipment, or cleaning the boat. Lubricates parts of marine equipment to maintain boat engines and auxiliary equipment.
Delivers fuel and bulk lube oil to marine and commercial accounts in a safe and efficient manner.
Essential Responsibilities:
Safe handling of petroleum products, both receiving and discharging. Complete knowledge and comply with all Federal and State regulations required for tank barge operations and assure that DOI requirements are met prior to starting with transfer operations. Maintain accurate record of product inventory aboard barges. Maintain accurate records of each job, both receiving and discharging. Responsible for all delivery paperwork (MDR'S). Responsible for quality control. Responsible for properly maintaining of mooring lines. Responsible for general engine maintenance, checking fluid levels, changing fluids and engine room housekeeping. Responsible for general deck maintenance and housekeeping. Responsible for notifying management of all maintenance or safety problems or concerns. Responsible for checking with shipping agents or Marine Exchanges prior to departing to vessel. Responsible for making sure that the barge is properly secured and moored, prior to end of shift.

Minimum Requirements:
Six to twelve months related experience and/or training. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organizations. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide; perform these operations using units of money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Working Conditions:
Required to work irregular hours, weekends and holidays. Regularly required to stand, frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tool, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance. May be required to lift and/or move up to or more than 75 lbs. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise level is usually moderate to loud.
