  • Part-time Position Summary TowBoatUS Steinhatchee is seeking a dependable, safety-focused Captain to provide on-water assistance to recreational boaters throughout the Steinhatchee River, Gulf of Mexico, and surrounding coastal waters.
The Captain is responsible for responding to service calls, performing towing and salvage assistance, jump-starts, fuel deliveries, ungroundings, and ensuring exceptional customer service while maintaining the highest standards of safety and professionalism. This position requires excellent boat handling skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently in changing weather and sea conditions. Primary Responsibilities Safely operate TowBoatUS vessels during towing and assistance operations. Respond promptly to dispatch calls for disabled vessels and emergencies. Perform routine towing, soft ungroundings, fuel deliveries, jump-starts, and battery replacements. Evaluate each situation and determine the safest recovery method. Maintain communication with dispatch and customers throughout each service call. Complete service reports, tow logs, and customer documentation accurately. Conduct daily vessel inspections and ensure all equipment is operational. Maintain vessel cleanliness and readiness at all times. Follow all U.S. Coast Guard regulations and company safety procedures. Represent TowBoatUS professionally while delivering exceptional customer service. Assist with maintenance, dock operations, and other duties as needed. Qualifications Current U.S. Coast Guard Captain's License (OUPV or Master preferred). Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to pass random drug screening Strong knowledge of local waters around Steinhatchee and the Big Bend Coast. (Keaton Beach, Suwannee River, Cedar Key, Horseshoe Beach) Experience operating boats in varying weather and sea conditions. Excellent docking and vessel handling skills. Ability to troubleshoot common marine mechanical issues. Ability to lift 75 pounds and perform physically demanding work. Strong communication and customer service skills. Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and be on-call during peak boating seasons. Current CPR/First Aid certification is preferred. Preferred Experience Marine towing or salvage experience. Commercial boating experience. Marine mechanical knowledge. VHF radio proficiency. Familiarity with TowBoatUS operations or similar marine assistance services. Physical Requirements Work outdoors in heat, rain, wind, and rough water conditions. Stand for extended periods. Climb aboard disabled vessels safely. Lift heavy equipment and towing gear.
