Job Description

The Eastern Upper Peninsula Transportation Authority is seeking applicants for part time deckhands for the Sugar Island Ferry. Hours will vary and may be on an as needed basis. Applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent, ability to follow verbal and written instructions, may need to lift heavy objects. Must pass a background check and pre employment drug test. Must also be willing to submit to random drug testing. Deckhands are responsible for directing traffic, loading and unloading vehicles off the ferry in a safe and efficient manner, adjusting ramps, closing gates, collecting fares, ensuring vessel is safely secured to the docks, keep the engine room clean, and washing decks. This is not an exhaustive list of job duties. Deckhands will be trained in various areas such as man overboard drills, CPR/1st Aide, and fire alarm system.
