Job Description

Position Summary:
As a High 5 Adult Day Training (ADT) Program Driver at High 5, Inc., work as part of an integral team to benefit the program and the community while providing safe and reliable transportation services for individuals with special needs. The driver is responsible for ensuring that clients are comfortable, safe, and properly secured during transit. This role involves close collaboration with caregivers, families, and support staff to ensure that the transportation needs of the clients are met with the highest level of care and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:
Safely transport individuals with special needs to and from designated locations, including schools, medical appointments, therapy sessions, and community events. Operate vehicles designed to accommodate wheelchairs and other mobility devices, ensuring that all equipment is properly secured and functioning. Assist clients in boarding and exiting the vehicle, including securing wheelchairs, seat belts, and other safety devices as required. Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines, including ensuring that the vehicle is in good operating condition, conducting pre-trip inspections, and reporting any maintenance issues. Maintain clear and professional communication with clients, caregivers/guardians, families and other staff members. Provide updates on travel times, delays, and any issues that may arise during transit. Keep accurate records of trips, including client information, routes taken, and any incidents or concerns that occur during transportation. Be prepared to respond to any emergencies that may occur during transport, including administering first aid if necessary and following proper emergency procedures. Maintain the confidentiality and privacy of all clients in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
Qualifications:
Must hold a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with a client endorsement (if required by state regulations). Previous experience in transporting individuals with special needs or similar populations is highly desirable. Certification in first aid and CPR is required, training can be provided by High 5, Inc. Additional training in handling and securing mobility devices, such as wheelchairs, is preferred. Must pass a thorough background check and drug screening. Strong verbal communication skills are essential to interact effectively with clients, caregivers, and other staff members. Ability to assist clients with mobility challenges, including lifting or moving individuals as needed. A caring and patient demeanor, with a commitment to providing compassionate service to individuals with diverse needs.
Work Environment:
The role primarily involves driving and assisting clients into and out of a vehicle. The driver may be required to work in varying weather conditions and handle emergency situations that may arise during transportation. Physical demands include assisting clients with boarding and exiting the vehicle, securing mobility devices, and handling emergency situations.
Schedule:
This position may require working early mornings, afternoons and evenings depending on the transportation needs of the clients.
Compensation:
Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
