Responsibilities Safely operate various types of vehicles including school buses, transit buses, vans, and paratransit vehicles in accordance with traffic laws and transportation safety regulations. Assist passengers with wheelchair boarding and disembarking, providing wheelchair assistance with care and respect. Follow all emergency response procedures for transportation to handle unexpected situations effectively. Maintain communication with dispatchers and passengers using clear, professional language to respond quickly to traffic changes or route adjustments. Ensure passenger safety by adhering to child and senior care policies, behavior management protocols, and school or transit policies. Conduct vehicle inspections before each shift to ensure all safety features are operational; report any maintenance issues promptly. Provide excellent customer service by creating a welcoming environment, addressing passenger needs, and managing student discipline when necessary. Experience Proven experience driving buses or vans in a commercial or school setting, with knowledge of school bus driving, transit bus operation, or paratransit services preferred. Familiarity with transportation safety regulations including vehicle codes, traffic laws, state and local commercial driving laws. Experience working with children or seniors is highly desirable; ability to handle behavior management effectively. Certification in first aid and CPR is preferred; training will be provided if needed. Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities. Ability to respond quickly to traffic changes and emergency situations with calmness and professionalism.
