Position Overview We are seeking experienced School Van Drivers who already hold an Illinois School Bus Driver Permit (SBP) to join our growing team. In this role, you will safely transport 10 or fewer students to and from school, ensuring a calm, supportive, and dependable environment for each child. What You'll Do Safely operate a company-provided school van on assigned routes. Provide supportive, reliable transportation for students with special needs. Assist students with boarding and exiting the vehicle when necessary. Perform required pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections. Follow all traffic laws, school district requirements, and safety protocols. Communicate promptly with dispatch, school staff, and families. What We're Looking For Valid Illinois Driver's License (held for at least 3 years). Valid Illinois School Bus Driver Permit (SBP) required. At least 21 years old. Must pass a fingerprint-based criminal background check, drug/alcohol screening, and physical exam as required by the Illinois Secretary of State and the Illinois State Board of Education. Previous experience transporting students or working with children (especially students with special needs) is preferred. Regulation Compliance As a licensed student transportation provider in Illinois, empowerED Transportation complies with all federal and state regulations, including the U.S. Department of Transportation's drug and alcohol testing requirements (49 CFR Part 40) and the Illinois Secretary of State's School Bus Driver Permit program. All drivers must hold a valid Illinois Driver's License and School Bus Driver Permit (SBP), maintain a safe driving record, and pass a fingerprint-based background check, drug and alcohol screening, and annual physical exam.
