FOOD SERVICE DELIVERY DRIVER
Head Start / Early Head Start
JOB PURPOSE
The Food Service Delivery Driver is responsible for safely loading, transporting, and delivering meals, food, and supplies to designated Head Start and Early Head Start locations according to established delivery routes and schedules. This position also assists with meal preparation, receiving and storing food and supplies, cleaning, sanitation, and other kitchen duties as assigned by the Food Service Manager.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Current ServSafe Food Handler Certificate or ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification preferred. Must obtain required certification within the timeframe established by the agency.
  • Previous food service, delivery driving, or commercial kitchen experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Basic knowledge of food service operations, sanitation, and food safety practices.
  • Ability to safely load, transport, and unload meals, food, and supplies.
  • Ability to follow established delivery routes and schedules.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Food Service staff, Head Start/Early Head Start site staff, supervisors, and vendors.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Follow assigned delivery routes and schedules to ensure meals and supplies are delivered safely and on time. 2. Load and unload meals, food, supplies, and other items for delivery to Head Start and Early Head Start locations. 3. Maintain appropriate food safety and sanitation practices during the loading, transportation, delivery, and unloading of meals and food items. 4. Assist with receiving, checking, and properly storing incoming food, supplies, and deliveries. 5. Maintain loading and unloading areas in a clean, safe, and orderly condition, including areas surrounding the grease trap and dumpster. 6. Follow all applicable food safety, sanitation, and health regulations, including standards established by the Peoria City/County Health Department. 7. Assist with meal preparation and other kitchen duties as assigned by the Food Service Manager. 8. Complete assigned duties accurately and within established timeframes. 9. Monitor the condition of the assigned delivery vehicle and promptly report maintenance, mechanical, or safety concerns to the Food Service Manager. 10. Follow safe driving practices and established safety procedures while operating, loading, and unloading the delivery vehicle. 11. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the delivery vehicle. 12. Perform other Food Service duties as assigned by the Food Service Manager. 13. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
DRIVER REQUIREMENTS
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Illinois driver's license.
  • Must maintain an acceptable driving record and meet agency requirements for operating agency vehicles.
  • Must follow all applicable Illinois traffic laws and agency vehicle safety policies.

Reports to work consistently and on time and is prepared to perform assigned duties. Completes work accurately, thoroughly, and within established timeframes. Demonstrates reliability and accountability in carrying out assigned responsibilities.

Communicates professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with supervisors, coworkers, Head Start/Early Head Start staff, vendors, and other individuals inside and outside the agency.
Teamwork and Professional Relationships:
Works effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and other agency personnel. Maintains a professional, respectful attitude and contributes to positive and constructive working relationships.
Safety and Compliance:
Consistently follows food safety, sanitation, vehicle safety, and agency procedures. Immediately reports unsafe conditions, vehicle concerns, food safety issues, or other problems to the Food Service Manager.
