Job Overview Join our team as a Part-Time CDL School Bus Driver and become a vital part of ensuring safe, reliable transportation for students and community members. Responsibilities Safely operate school buses in accordance with state and local traffic laws, transportation safety regulations, and school policies. Transport students and passengers to designated locations while maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor. Assist passengers with wheelchair assistance, behavior management, and student discipline as needed to ensure passenger safety and comfort. Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including emergency stop procedures and first aid protocols such as CPR. Conduct pre-trip inspections of the vehicle, checking for vehicle codes compliance, mechanical issues, and safety equipment functionality. Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers using clear English language skills. Respond quickly to traffic changes or unexpected situations by adjusting driving routes or procedures to ensure timely arrivals. Maintain accurate logs of trips, incidents, vehicle inspections, and passenger counts in writing or electronic systems. Demonstrate knowledge of heavy lifting techniques when assisting passengers or handling equipment safely. Uphold passenger safety standards by enforcing behavior management policies and ensuring proper passenger conduct during trips. Experience Prior experience driving commercial vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, or paratransit vehicles is highly preferred. Demonstrated ability to work with children or senior care populations is advantageous. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and emergency response procedures is essential. Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for school bus operation is required. Familiarity with student discipline policies and behavior management techniques enhances effectiveness in this role. Strong communication skills in English are necessary to interact confidently with passengers, school staff, and emergency responders. Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and respond promptly to traffic changes ensures smooth daily operations.
