About Ashe County Habitat for Humanity Ashe County Habitat for Humanity builds safe, affordable homes in partnership with local families. We have just completed our 13th home since our founding in 2008, and are beginning homes 14 and 15 which will be completed in 2027. Our ReStore generates critical revenue to support homebuilding and repair programs across the county. Job Overview The Habitat Driver-Associate is responsible for the safe and efficient collection of in-kind contributions, such as furniture and appliances, from homes and businesses in Ashe County. The Driver-Associate will transport those to the ReStore, and assist the ReStore with preparing the items for sale. This preparation may include staging, cleaning, assembly, disassembly and pricing. They will also ensure the ReStore is organized, clean, and safe. When not out on a pickup or delivery they will contribute as needed to ReStore operations including customer services, cleaning, running a cash register, and answering phones. Responsibilities Drive/ride on box trucks to pick up donations. Assess donations for resale potential Communicate professionally and tactfully with donors at all times Unload and place items on showroom floor Safe lifting and proper use of dollies, straps, and pallet jacks Exercise excellent customer service Operate cash register Receive donations Maintain a clean work area. Clean product, showroom areas, break rooms, and bathrooms. Assist in keeping trucks well maintained and clean Maintain a clean and professional appearance Maintain a co-operative working relationship with fellow employees and volunteers Other duties and responsibilities as assigned Take the trash and recycling from the ReStore to the dump Ability to complete minor box truck repairs a plus! Ability to do some store maintenance, property maintenance also a plus! Working Environment
  • Indoor/outdoor work
  • Exposure to dust, donated goods, weather during pickups
  • Frequent climbing in/out of trucks
  • Maneuver large items like furniture through doorways and stairwells.
  • Air conditioned retail environment when not on pickup/delivery
  • Two Driver-Associates will be on a truck at all times for deliveries and pickups.
  • Delivery/pickup window is 11am-3pm.
Required Qualifications High School Graduate or equivalent Valid North Carolina driver's license with a clean driving record Strong communication skills, via all modes of communication, in English (other languages a plus) Ability to use own mobile phone and email for communication. Able to stand on concrete floors, bend, reach, lift, climb in and out of box trucks and commercial vehicles, climb on and off-loading docks all throughout each work day Able to lift, carry, climb up and down stairs and loading ramps and docks with 75 lbs of boxed and loose material. Able to work with co-worker(s) to cooperatively lift and load furniture, appliances and building materials weighing 100 lbs or more Ability to problem solve and make decisions as a team with the other Driver-Associate. Demonstrated understanding and enthusiasm for the mission of Habitat for
Humanity Preferred Qualifications:
Experience driving trucks, vans, and trailers Retail and/or delivery experience preferred
Other Requirements:
Schedule varies 21 to 35 hours Mon-Saturday weekly, most Saturdays required Shift hours 9:30a-4:30p Must pass Drug Test and Criminal Background Check If you are passionate about our mission, we hope you will apply! Pay:
$15.00 per hour Expected hours: 21.0 - 35.0 per week Application Question(s): Can you work with a team member to repeatedly lift furniture weighing more than 100 lbs for the duration of the 7-hour workday and maneuver furniture up and down stair wells and other difficult places?
