This is not a driving-only job. These are short local routes. A significant portion of the shift involves loading, unloading, pushing, pulling and controlling heavy rolling mail containers . Drivers may spend more time handling mail containers at postal facilities than actually driving.
Drivers will work with:
Heavy rolling mail carts and containers APCs, BMCs, OTRs and wire cages Fully loaded rolling mail containers 26-foot box trucks with liftgates Ramps and facility lifts E-track and ratchet straps Drivers are responsible for moving containers to and from designated areas within postal facilities. Some locations have limited lift capacity and may require containers to be moved one or two at a time , requiring repeated loading and unloading. Responsibilities Safely operate a 26-foot box truck with liftgate Transport mail between postal facilities Load and unload rolling mail containers Push and pull loaded mail carts and containers Safely control loaded containers while using liftgates and ramps Move containers to and from designated locations within postal facilities Secure containers using E-track and ratchet straps Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections Meet required mail transportation schedules Complete required electronic and portal documentation Physical Requirements Applicants must be able to: Repeatedly push and pull heavy rolling mail containers Safely control fully loaded containers Load and unload multiple containers throughout the shift Work safely with liftgates, ramps and facility lifts Bend, reach, climb in and out of the truck and remain on their feet during loading/unloading Lift up to 100 lbs when required Perform physical work safely during nighttime and early-morning hours Driver Requirements Valid driver's license Acceptable driving record Experience operating 26-foot box trucks or similar commercial vehicles preferred Ability to safely operate a 26-foot box truck with liftgate Reliable and dependable attendance Comfortable working early-morning/night hours Must satisfy applicable background, drug screening and employment requirements CDL Class A or B is preferred but not required for this box-truck position.
