Part-time, ~10-20 hours/week (flexible schedule with onsite presence) About Us The Santa Barbara Youth Sailing Foundation provides high-quality sailing instruction and racing programs for youth. We are seeking a proactive, experienced professional to ensure our fleet, support vessels, equipment, and facilities remain safe, well-maintained, and ready for use throughout the year. Position Summary The Port Captain is responsible for the ongoing maintenance, safety, and operational readiness of all SBYSF vessels (race boats and coach boats), trailers, dock infrastructure, and our clubhouse. This role performs routine and preventative maintenance, completes checklists, manages inventory, and coordinates repairs as needed to support daily programs and events. Key Responsibilities Perform weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual inspections and maintenance on sailboats and powerboats. Maintain coach boats, including engine systems, safety gear, and readiness for daily use. Inspect and service trailers (tires, lights, bearings, tie-downs) to ensure safe transportation. Conduct regular dock and waterfront facility checks; address minor repairs and coordinate larger projects. Oversee clubhouse upkeep and storage areas, including tools and parts inventory. Maintain accurate maintenance logs and documentation. Coordinate with vendors for major repairs or specialized services. Support regatta preparation and program needs as required. Qualifications Experience in marine maintenance, small boat repair, or related field. Comfortable with mechanical, electrical, and basic repair tasks. Fiberglass/gelcoat repair experience is a plus. Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently. Ability to lift and handle equipment (50+ lbs). Enthusiasm for sailing and youth maritime programs is a plus.
Compensation:
$30+/hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
Pay:
