Dock Manager - Boat Rental Operations Finney Boat Rentals | Galveston, TX Job Overview Finney Boat Rentals is seeking a dependable, highly organized, and hands-on Dock Manager to oversee our daily boat rental and dock operations in Galveston. This is a key leadership position responsible for keeping daily operations safe, efficient, organized, and on schedule while providing an exceptional customer experience. We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their responsibilities and doesn't wait to be told what needs to be done. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating boats and trailers, mechanically inclined, confident leading a team, and capable of quickly identifying and resolving problems. Attention to detail is extremely important in this position. Our Dock Manager is responsible for ensuring boats and equipment are properly inspected, maintained, prepared, and accounted for each day. This is a hands-on management position—not a desk job. You will be expected to lead the team while actively participating in daily dock operations. Responsibilities Oversee daily boat rental and dock operations from opening through closing Manage and coordinate dock staff to ensure responsibilities are completed safely and efficiently Maintain excellent communication with customers and provide outstanding customer service throughout the rental experience Coordinate boat departures and returns to keep rentals running safely and on schedule Perform and oversee pre-rental and post-rental inspections of boats and equipment Safely operate boats and maneuver vessels around the dock and marina Operate a truck while towing a boat trailer Safely launch and retrieve boats using a trailer and boat ramp Inspect boats for damage, mechanical problems, fuel levels, cleanliness, and overall readiness Identify mechanical or equipment issues before they result in downtime or affect customers Perform basic troubleshooting, minor repairs, and routine maintenance when appropriate Coordinate necessary maintenance and repairs with management Ensure boats, trailers, vehicles, safety equipment, and rental equipment are properly maintained and organized Ensure required safety equipment is onboard and boats are prepared correctly before every rental Maintain clean and organized boats, docks, vehicles, equipment, and work areas Enforce company safety procedures and applicable boating and USCG safety requirements Document customer damage, equipment issues, incidents, and maintenance needs accurately Ensure opening and closing procedures and daily checklists are completed thoroughly Lead by example and hold team members accountable for maintaining company standards Adapt quickly to changing weather, customer schedules, mechanical issues, and other operational demands Requirements Must be experienced and confident driving a truck while towing a boat trailer Must be able to safely launch and load boats from a trailer Strong boat-handling and docking skills Mechanically inclined with the ability to identify and troubleshoot basic mechanical problems Exceptional attention to detail Strong leadership and team-management abilities Excellent customer service and communication skills Dependable, punctual, organized, and responsible Ability to work independently, take initiative, and solve problems without constant supervision Comfortable working outdoors in a marine environment and Texas summer conditions Ability to perform physical duties associated with dock operations, including handling lines, equipment, and supplies Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and peak-season schedules as required Preferred Qualifications USCG Captain's License strongly preferred Previous boat rental, marina, charter, watersports, or marine-industry experience Previous supervisory or management experience Experience with marine engines, electrical systems, batteries, trailers, and routine boat maintenance Compensation $20-25 per hour + tips This position offers significant responsibility and the opportunity to play a major role in the day-to-day success of our operation.
