Job Description

The Equipment Operator II is a position within the Environmental Services Department that involves the operation of the following; tractor, backhoe, bulldozer, skid steer, excavator, garbage truck and other land maintenance machinery in the performance of construction and maintenance of county facilities and grounds, rights-of-ways, roads, ditches, and other county properties and infrastructure. Duties and Responsibilities Operates roll off truck transporting recyclable materials for processing Operates roll off truck emptying roll off containers at the landfill convenience area Operates light and heavy trucks transporting stone and other materials Operates roll off truck hauling and emptying containers at county construction sites as needed Operates dump truck hauling stone for the landfill or other county projects as needed Operates road broom / street sweeper cleaning roadways in and near the landfill Must be able to navigate routes efficiently in order to optimize travel time Must have the skills and ability to maintain logs and records related to container transports Must be able to empty and clean containers ensuring proper transport and disposal Driving skills must be proficient in maneuvering heavy trucks and containers Must be physically able to lift and move heavy cabling and materials in order to transport containers in various weather conditions Must have the ability to operate machinery such as loaders, compactors and bailers in order to move, transport and process waste and recyclable materials. Performs routine maintenance on equipment as specified by the equipment manufacturer or as directed by the supervisor that includes but not limited to daily checks on engine oil, transmission fluid, filters and coolant fluid as well as other required maintenance. Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner. Performs other duties as assigned by supervision.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Working knowledge of various types of heavy equipment. One year of on the job experience operating multiple types of equipment. Class B Commercial Driver's License Class A Commercial Driver's License at the time of hire or required to obtain their Class A CDL as a condition of continued employment within one year after hire.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is mostly performed outdoors and subject to extreme weather conditions, exposure to fumes from exhaust on equipment, exposure to high noise levels and characteristics typical of a solid waste landfill.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is generally heavy in nature involving sitting, standing, bending, carrying, walking, and lifting, pushing and pulling up to 100 pounds. Exposure to extreme vibration during operation of equipment.
EXAMINATIONS
No written or performance examination will be required for this position. Applicants are screened and certified based on an evaluation of their education, training, experience and other requirements as outlined in this Position Announcement and denoted on their Job Application and responses to the Supplemental Questionnaire.
