Job Description

Job Summary:
We are seeking a reliable and dedicated Solid Waste Refuse Collector Driver to join our team. As a Solid Waste Refuse Collector Driver, you will be responsible for collecting and disposing of refuse from residential and commercial areas. This is a physically demanding role that requires heavy lifting (up to 70 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment) and operating various types of vehicles.
Duties:
  • Collect refuse from designated areas using dump trucks, side loader trucks, or other appropriate vehicles
  • Load and unload refuse containers onto the vehicle
  • Involves working in a waste and hazardous waste collection, disposal, recovery, recycling environment.
  • Safely navigate through assigned routes to collect refuse
  • Ensure proper disposal of collected refuse at designated disposal sites
  • Follow all safety protocols and regulations while performing duties
  • Maintain cleanliness and functionality of assigned vehicles and equipment
Qualifications:
  • Valid Class C California driver's license with a clean driving record; Applicants with a Class B license can earn 8% in higher salary
  • Previous experience as a delivery driver, commercial driver, truck driver, or in a similar role is preferred
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting and physical labor consistently throughout the workday
  • Requires the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, in person, in writing, and by telephone (includes texts) and email.
  • Excellent time management skills to ensure timely completion of assigned routes
  • Strong attention to detail to accurately collect and dispose of refuse
  • Must possess mobility, strength, and stamina to perform physical work for extended periods of time
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills and establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with members of the public and other District employees Please note that this position requires working outdoors in various weather conditions, which may include cold and hot temperatures, or inclement weather conditions.
Incumbents work both indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to dust and/or other allergens, odors, noise, weather, uneven surfaces and terrain and confining workspaces moderate to loud noise levels, wet and/or slippery conditions, chemicals, mechanical, and/or electrical hazards.
