Job Description
Under the direction of the Operations Manager - Physical Services, the Maintainer II has the responsibility of operating light and heavy trucks and equipment, including but not limited to snowplows, roadside mowers, forklift, tractors, lawn equipment, and CDL vehicles. Also requires operating hand tools, power tools, chainsaws, and jackhammers. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in construction and heavy vehicle operation, including operating a variety of trucks and light equipment. Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with air brakes endorsement is preferred. Candidates without CDL must be able to obtain a CDL Class B with air brakes endorsement within eight (8) months of hire. The employee is responsible for all costs associated with obtaining the CDL. Town will reimburse the individual for fees paid to obtain CDL Class B with air brakes endorsement after obtaining license and successfully completing the 8-month probation period. Training and testing must be completed outside of regular working hours. Must comply with all CDL drug and alcohol testing requirements Selection Process The examination may consist of a rating of the training and experience as contained on the application, a written test, an oral test, a practical examination, or any combination of the aforementioned. All parts of the examination, including tests and ratings, will be related to the requirement of the position. Candidates will need to pass a written exam to proceed to the oral board interviews. Candidates who pass the oral board interviews will proceed to a practical examination. Candidates must pass all phases of the practical examination to continue in the recruiting process. Qualified applicants currently in positions covered by the Teamsters union contract have preference over all other applicants. Written/Oral and/or Practical examination -to be determined - Candidates will be notified of dates, times & locations.
