Immediately Job Description Specialized Student Transportation Driver Position Summary The Specialized Student Transportation Driver is responsible for safely and reliably transporting an individual student to and from a specialized school or educational program. The driver provides a consistent, secure, and supportive transportation experience while maintaining confidentiality and following all school corporation transportation policies, student-specific transportation requirements, and applicable Indiana laws and regulations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Safely transport the assigned student between the student's residence and the designated specialized school or educational program. Operate an assigned vehicle in a safe, courteous, and defensive manner at all times. Follow an established transportation route and schedule while allowing for reasonable traffic and weather conditions. Maintain appropriate supervision of the student throughout the transportation period. Follow all student-specific safety, behavioral, medical, mobility, or transportation procedures provided by the school corporation. Communicate appropriately and professionally with the student, parents/guardians, school personnel, and transportation staff. Maintain student confidentiality and protect private student information. Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report safety concerns, mechanical problems, or needed repairs. Keep the vehicle clean, orderly, and properly maintained. Report student transportation concerns, changes in behavior, injuries, incidents, or unusual circumstances promptly to the appropriate school personnel. Follow established procedures in the event of an accident, vehicle breakdown, medical emergency, severe weather, or other emergency. Comply with all applicable traffic laws, school corporation policies, transportation procedures, and safety requirements. Maintain regular and dependable attendance and arrive at designated locations on time. Maintain professional boundaries and appropriate conduct when interacting with the student and family. Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director, building administrator, or Superintendent. Qualifications Valid driver's license appropriate for the assigned vehicle. Meet all applicable Indiana requirements for transporting students in a school corporation vehicle. Ability to safely operate and maintain an assigned vehicle. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and school personnel. Ability to exercise patience, sound judgment, and discretion when working with an individual student. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student information. Successful completion of required background checks, training, and other school corporation employment requirements. Physical Requirements The employee must be able to safely operate the assigned vehicle and assist the student as required. The position may require sitting for extended periods, entering and exiting the vehicle repeatedly, assisting with student mobility or safety equipment when applicable, and responding appropriately to emergency situations. Work Schedule The work schedule will generally correspond to the assigned student's school schedule and transportation needs. The position may require transportation in the morning and afternoon and may include adjustments based on the student's educational program, school calendar, or transportation requirements. Hours are 7:45 AM to 4:45 PM. Driver will be paid driving time and wait time (if applicable).
