$41,853.02 General Definition of Work Performs manual work collecting, sorting, and processing recycle and waste material, performing general preventative maintenance on assigned vehicle and equipment, conducting pre-trip inspections, completing paperwork, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Collection and Recycling Manager. Essential Functions Drives prescribed routes to collect recyclable and waste material. Sorts received and collected material for proper waste processing. Bails cardboard and recyclable material. Cleans and performs preventative maintenance on assigned vehicles machines, and equipment. Assists with general cleanup at the Material Recycling Facility as needed. Provides information to Crew Leader or Collection Manager on route issues or problems and assists with solutions for the same. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of recycle material properties and the safe handling of them; knowledge local, State, and Federal laws and regulations pertaining to the department; knowledge of the safe operation of light to medium construction equipment and vehicles; knowledge of various ordinances, codes and regulations pertaining to recycling and refuse materials; knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation; knowledge of safe driving practices and occupational hazards of the work; skill in excellent customer service; skill in the use of personal computers, associated software packages, hardware, and peripheral equipment; skill in the use of hand and power tools; skill in the use and operation of assigned equipment and vehicles; ability to perform manual labor; ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and the general public. Education and Experience High School diploma or GED required.
