Job Description

Do you have a sharp eye for detail and confident skills behind the wheel? The DeLong Co. is hiring a Spotter Driver at our Edgerton, KS facility — someone who can safely move trailers and shipping containers around our yard, keep equipment inspections sharp, and keep pace in a fast-moving logistics environment. This is a yard-only driving role — no CDL required, and you'll never operate on public roads.
SCHEDULE
This is a full-time, hourly (non-exempt) position, with overtime paid at time and a half after 40 hours per week.
December-August:
Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM-3:00 PM September-November (peak season): Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM-5:00 PM, with occasional weekend work required
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As Spotter Driver, you'll keep trailers and containers moving safely and efficiently around our yard. Day to day, you will: Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on assigned yard trucks each shift, reporting any mechanical issues or safety concerns Safely back, spot, hook, and unhook approximately 30 trailers per day, including 40-ft and 20-ft trailers with mounted shipping containers Open and close container doors on approximately 30 containers per day Communicate clearly and consistently with team members and dispatch using handheld two-way radios Move trailers between dock doors, staging areas, and yard spots as directed Follow all yard safety protocols and traffic patterns at all times Assist with general facility cleanliness and upkeep during slower periods Maintain accurate records of trailer movements as required
WHAT YOU BRING
Required:
Valid driver's license (CDL not required for this position) Demonstrated ability to safely back and maneuver 40-ft and 20-ft trailers, including container-mounted units Comfortable operating handheld radio equipment for communication Strong attention to detail for inspections and documentation Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Reliable and punctual, with the ability to work extended hours during peak season (Sept-Nov), including occasional weekends Ability to lift, bend, and stand for extended periods; capable of manually opening/closing container doors throughout the shift
Preferred:
Prior yard spotter, warehouse, or equipment-operating experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to climb into and out of truck cabs repeatedly throughout the shift Ability to operate container door mechanisms, which may require moderate physical effort Ability to work in an active yard environment around moving equipment
