Job title Non-Emergent Transit Driver Reports to Transportation Manager/CEO Job purpose Allen Regional Transit Drivers are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Allen Regional Transit's transportation services. This includes transporting residents to medical and safety-net appointments inside Allen County and providing public transportation to Allen County residents and visitors within the county. The person selected for this job will be driving a 14 person bus. No CDL required. Duties and responsibilities Primary Responsibilities Practices safe driving habits. Accurately follows routes, maps, and directions, follow schedules and rerouting in a timely manner when faced with traffic or congestion. Depending upon the physical capacity of passengers, assists passengers from their front door to the vehicle and the vehicle to their front door. Assists passengers with their packages, if needed. Assures that passengers safely board the vehicle, are seated and secure via seatbelt. Transports passengers to various activities such as pharmacy, doctor's appointments, disability hearings, social security meetings, etc. Operates and performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the Allen Regional Transit vehicles. Ensures vehicles are serviced and maintained, including fueling vehicles daily and keeping the vehicles clean inside and out. Reports any maintenance or safety issues to the management. Operates the wheelchair equipment on the van to safely load, seat and secure passengers. Maintains reports and records required by KDOT and Allen Regional Transit. Follows all rules and regulations as established by the Federal Transit Administration, Kansas Department of Transportation, Allen Regional Transit and Allen Regional Transit's Board of Directors. Handles passenger emergencies that may arise; completes accident or injury reports as required. Collects payments, document amount, and offer receipts when necessary. Other Responsibilities Attend local, state, and national transportation trainings and events. Other projects and duties as assigned. Qualifications Must be 21+ years of age. Must be able to pass KDOT physical, drug test and background checks. Driving experience a plus but not required. High school diploma or GED required. Valid driver's license and clean driving record required. Demonstrates safe driving practices Specific vision abilities required include close, color and distance vision, peripheral and depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to hear normal sounds, distinguish sounds as voice patterns or vehicle sounds. Comfortable driving in various weather conditions, large cities, and a variety of vehicles. Must be able to frequently move up to 20 pounds. Outgoing, friendly personality who enjoys working with the public. Ability to work effectively with people of all social, economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds. Professional attitude and appearance. Reliable and punctual with dedicated professionalism to job and duties. Excellent time management skills. Able to adapt to changing schedules or routines. Have an ability to solve problems as they arise. More Information All drivers must pass or already have obtained all required trainings including CPR and First Aid and defensive driving. Allen Regional Transit will pay for all trainings needed that the employee does not currently possess. Allen Regional Transit is an EOE.

Compensation:

This is an hourly position paid at $14/hour, up to 30 hours per week. This position consists of 10-hour shifts, 3 days per week. Holiday pay. This job requires the employees to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods; come in contact with vehicle fumes; frequently talk to the public and listen to feedback; reach with hands and arms; and kneel and/or bend to work on equipment.
