September 30, 2025 OVERVIEW
OF POSITION
This position works under the general supervision of the Maintenance Manager / Foreman and is responsible for the operation of tractor-trailers, heavy equipment, and a variety of other duties associated with Disposal Area operations.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(The following is illustrative of the duties and responsibilities associated with the position and is not intended to be all inclusive) Operates a multitude of heavy equipment, including tractor-trailers and front-end loaders. Tractor-trailer operation consists of a variety of trailers including, but not limited to, 100-yd ejector-type municipal solid waste (MSW) trailers, 100-yd open-top C&D trailers, roll-off trailer, and dump trailer. Must be able to operate equipment in a close proximity to the public in a safe manner. Required to perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on equipment as necessary. Performs laboring duties as needed in the Recycling Center, Transfer Station, and C&D pad. May be temporarily assigned to Scale house Operator or Transfer Station Monitor positions. Must be able to perform duties under disagreeable and difficult conditions and have the ability to deal tactfully with the public. Must be available for weekend and holiday work.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES
Must be a high school graduate or the equivalent thereof and be able to read, write, perform simple math, and communicate effectively with the supervisor, co-workers, and the public. Minimum of two years experience in the operation and maintenance of tractor-trailers and heavy equipment, with one year in the MSW or recycling fields preferred. Must possess a Massachusetts commercial driver's license (CDL) A with proper endorsements and a Massachusetts hoisting engineer license with a minimum of a 2C rating.
