Job Description

Job Summary:
Chesapeake Spice Company is seeking a dependable and safety-focused yard jockey associate to support our distribution operations. In this role you will be responsible for safely moving and positioning semi-trailers throughout our facility yard, dock doors, and staging areas during our afternoon/evening shift, ensuring trailers are correctly placed for loading & unloading.
Responsibilities:
Operate a yard truck (hostler/spotter) to move trailers to and from dock doors, drop lots, and staging areas as directed by dispatch or warehouse management. Hook and unhook trailer landing gear, airlines, and electrical connections; ensure all equipment is properly secured before and after every move. Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections (DVIR) in compliance with DOT and Chesapeake Spice Company policies; promptly report and document any defects or damage. Communicate trailer status and yard updates to warehouse supervisors, and inbound/outbound drivers as needed during the shift. Adhere to all facility safety protocols, traffic patterns, and posted speed limits within the yard at all times. Assist with light warehouse or dock duties during downtime as directed by supervisors. Other duties as assigned. High School Diploma/GED required 2+ years in a distribution or warehouse environment, preferred Prior yard jockey or hostler experience in a warehouse or distribution setting, preferred Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Clean MVR with no major violations in the past 3 years Ability to pass DOT pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol screening Minimum 1 year of CDL driving experience (yard or road) Ability to operate manual and automatic transmission vehicles Forklift certification or experience operating material handling equipment, preferred Strong awareness of safe backing and spotting techniques Strong oral comprehension and expression skills Dependability with a sense of urgency Walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time Push, pull, lift, & carry heavy product such as equipment, bags and drums weighing up to 100lbs Able to extend arms with hands over the head or at shoulder height Kneel, stoop, or bend downwards and forward Ascend or descend ladders and platforms Able to hear, understand and distinguish speech and/or other sounds such as machinery alarms Near and far visual acuity required Work in an environment that is noisy, dusty and may contain spices with high heat intensity Withstand working in cold and hot temperatures for long periods of time Must be able to read and write English Able to work occasional weekends as needed
