Job Description
Start Your Career in the Propane Industry! Gerner Energy is seeking a motivated and dependable Propane Helper / Apprentice to join our growing propane service and installation team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is interested in learning a skilled trade and building a long-term career in the propane industry. You will work directly alongside experienced propane technicians and our Service & Installation Foreman, gaining hands-on experience with propane tanks, gas piping, regulators, appliances, and propane systems. No prior propane experience is required. We are willing to train the right candidate. Gerner Energy is a family-owned heating oil and propane company serving Maryland homeowners and businesses. What You'll Do Assist with the installation and removal of above-ground and underground propane tanks Assist with propane piping and exterior vapor distribution system installations Assist with trenching, excavation, and burying propane lines and underground tanks Assist with pressure testing, leak checks, and system start-ups Learn to identify and address potential propane system safety issues Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of propane equipment Learn proper use of hand tools, power tools, and propane-related equipment Assist with cathodic protection testing and maintenance on underground propane tanks Maintain a clean and organized job site, work vehicle, tools, and equipment Follow all company safety procedures, applicable codes, and industry standards Provide professional and courteous service to customers Complete required company and propane industry training Work closely with experienced technicians while developing the skills necessary to advance within the propane service and installation department What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who is: Reliable, dependable, and punctual Mechanically inclined and comfortable working with tools Eager to learn a skilled trade Safety-minded and attentive to detail Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions Able to take direction and work well as part of a team Professional and courteous when interacting with customers Willing to learn and grow within the company Able to safely perform the physical requirements of the position Qualifications Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record Ability to lift at least 50 pounds on a regular basis Ability to work outdoors year-round Ability to safely use hand and power tools Previous construction, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, propane, or other skilled-trade experience is a plus, but not required Propane experience or CETP certification is a plus, but not required Must be willing to complete company-provided propane safety and technical training Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol test and background check Training & Career Development At Gerner Energy, we believe in developing our employees and helping them build careers, not just filling positions.
