Job Description

Job Overview The Town of Gray is seeking reliable, motivated individuals to join our Public Works team in the full-time role of Light Equipment Operator / Truck Driver / Laborer. We currently have two full-time openings:
Immediate Opening:
Requires a valid Maine Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Opening Beginning October 2, 2026: Requires a valid Maine Class B CDL and the ability to operate manual-transmission vehicles. This position performs a variety of essential public works functions, including operating equipment, maintaining infrastructure, and supporting seasonal operations such as snow removal. Key Responsibilities Operate light to medium-duty equipment, including trucks, backhoes, front-end loaders, and street sweepers Perform road maintenance, snow and ice control, and other seasonal public works duties Assist with general labor tasks including repairs, cleaning, and maintenance of Town property and infrastructure Respond to emergencies and work outside normal hours as needed Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) Valid Maine Class B Commercial Driver's License (minimum requirement) without restrictions that would prevent operation of manual-transmission Class B vehicles Willingness to work outside normal work hours Ability to work in varying weather and terrain conditions Ability to pass a pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol screening Ability to perform the physical demands of the position (see full job description for details) Benefits This full-time position works 40 hours per week (Monday-Thursday) and is paid $26.66 per hour.
