The CDL Class A Driver plays an important role in supporting our landscaping, snow, construction, and field operations by safely transporting equipment, materials, plants, and supplies between vendors, company facilities, and job sites throughout Southeastern Michigan. This is primarily a local, home-daily position . The successful candidate will be responsible for safely operating company vehicles and trailers, properly securing loads, completing required inspections, and ensuring materials and equipment arrive at their destination safely and on schedule. The ideal candidate takes pride in operating equipment safely, maintaining a professional appearance and attitude, protecting company assets, and providing excellent service to our field teams, vendors, and customers. Experience in landscaping, construction, snow operations, equipment transportation, or material delivery is preferred but not required. Key Responsibilities Commercial Vehicle Operation Safely operate Class 6 and Class 7 dump trucks, flatbed trailers, stake trucks, and other company vehicles as assigned. Transport landscaping materials, bulk materials, plants, equipment, tools, and other supplies to and from job sites. Pick up equipment and materials from vendors, suppliers, nurseries, company facilities, and other locations. Deliver materials and equipment to job sites according to daily schedules and operational requirements. Operate vehicles in accordance with all applicable DOT, state, federal, and company requirements. Maintain awareness of vehicle dimensions, weight restrictions, road conditions, job-site conditions, and traffic hazards. Follow established routes and transportation instructions while adjusting to changing operational needs. Safely maneuver vehicles in residential, commercial, construction, and job-site environments. Load Securement & Transportation Safety Properly load and secure all materials and equipment prior to transportation. Demonstrate working knowledge of load securement using straps, chains, tarps, binders, and other approved securement equipment . Inspect loads and securement devices before departure and throughout transportation as required. Ensure loads remain properly secured during transportation. Follow company safety procedures and applicable DOT regulations regarding load securement. Use appropriate personal protective equipment and follow all job-site safety requirements. Immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, accidents, incidents, or vehicle concerns to management. Maintain a safety-first mindset at all times. Vehicle Inspection & Maintenance Perform required pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Identify and report mechanical issues, damage, safety concerns, or maintenance needs. Maintain accurate vehicle inspection and maintenance documentation. Keep assigned vehicles clean, organized, and in professional operating condition. Monitor vehicle fluids, tires, lights, brakes, safety equipment, and other basic operating components. Ensure vehicles and trailers are properly maintained and ready for daily operations. Coordinate with the maintenance team regarding repairs and preventative maintenance needs. Job Site & Field Support Deliver materials and equipment accurately and efficiently to support field crews. Communicate professionally with project managers, supervisors, foremen, customers, vendors, and other team members. Follow job-site instructions and safely navigate active work areas. Assist with loading and unloading materials and equipment when appropriate. Support Operations with transportation needs during peak seasons and periods of increased activity. Assist with snow, landscaping, construction, and other company operations as needed. Help ensure field teams have the materials and equipment necessary to complete work safely and efficiently. Customer Service & Professionalism Represent Lucia Landscaping professionally while operating company vehicles. Maintain a clean and professional appearance. Provide courteous and professional service when interacting with customers, vendors, and the public. Protect company property, customer property, equipment, materials, and vehicles. Communicate schedule changes, delivery issues, delays, or other concerns promptly. Demonstrate a positive attitude and commitment to Lucia's One Team culture. Communication & Documentation Maintain accurate delivery, pickup, inspection, and transportation records as required. Communicate effectively with Operations regarding daily schedules and transportation needs. Report delivery discrepancies, damaged materials, equipment issues, or other problems promptly. Participate in daily/weekly team meetings, huddles, and safety meetings as required. Utilize company technology, mobile devices, GPS, routing systems, and other systems as applicable. Follow company SOPs, policies, safety procedures, and the Employee Handbook. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications & Skills (Must Haves) Valid CDL Class A driver's license . Valid air brake qualification/endorsement , as applicable. Previous commercial driving experience required. Demonstrated experience with load securement . Working knowledge of using straps, chains, binders, tarps, and other load-securement equipment . Safe and responsible driving history. Ability to safely operate commercial vehicles in residential, commercial, construction, and job-site environments. Strong understanding of basic DOT and commercial vehicle safety requirements. Ability to perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety. Dependable attendance and punctuality. Ability to communicate effectively with Operations, field personnel, vendors, and customers. Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team. Strong work ethic and willingness to assist with operational needs. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to work a flexible schedule based on seasonal and operational business needs. Preferred Qualifications & Experience Preferred skills is a CDLA - with Tractor Trailer Endorsement Experience operating Class 6 or Class 7 dump trucks. Experience operating flatbed trailers. Experience operating stake trucks. Experience hauling landscaping or construction materials. Experience transporting heavy equipment. Experience in landscaping, construction, snow, excavation, or related industries. Experience operating a skid steer. Experience operating a Bobcat. Experience operating a Dingo. Experience operating a snowplow. Knowledge of plants, trees, shrubs, and landscape materials. Experience working in a seasonal outdoor environment. Familiarity with Southeastern Michigan roads and job sites. Physical Requirements Ability to safely operate commercial vehicles for extended periods. Ability to frequently enter and exit trucks and trailers. Ability to climb steps, ladders, and vehicle access points as necessary. Ability to inspect, secure, cover, load, and unload materials and equipment. Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and maneuver materials and equipment as required. Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, snow, and other weather conditions. Ability to safely work around heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, construction equipment, and active job sites. Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Work Schedule Typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM , based on operational needs. This is a local, home-daily position . Additional or extended hours may be required during peak landscaping seasons, major projects, snow and ice events, weather events, or periods of increased operational activity.
