Job Description
The CDL Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of hardwood lumber, millwork products, and related materials to customers, vendors, and company locations. This position also performs loading and unloading of trucks, secures loads in compliance with DOT regulations, completes required documentation, and assists with warehouse and yard operations when not driving. The CDL Driver represents Root River Hardwoods through professional customer service and a strong commitment to safety and quality. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Safely operate Class A commercial vehicles in accordance with all DOT, FMCSA, and company regulations. Deliver and pick up lumber, millwork products, and other materials on scheduled routes. Load and unload trucks using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment. Inspect, verify, and secure all loads to ensure safe transport and prevent damage. Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and daily vehicle inspections and report maintenance needs promptly. Complete bills of lading, delivery tickets, inspection reports, mileage logs, and other required documentation. Communicate delivery schedules, delays, and customer concerns with dispatch and management. Provide courteous and professional customer service during deliveries and pickups. Assist with shipping, receiving, inventory, warehouse organization, and yard operations as needed. Maintain clean trucks, trailers, and work areas. Follow all company safety policies and wear required PPE. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate. Clean driving record and ability to meet company insurance requirements. Forklift experience preferred or willingness to become certified. Experience hauling building materials, lumber, or industrial products preferred. Ability to safely operate manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
