Job Description Job Overview Drives truck to haul solid waste from outlying collection sites to landfill. Operates heavy equipment, maintains equipment and does general labor. This position performs technical and labor duties requiring adnce to safety procedures. Hazards of position include working near moving parts of machinery and exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, noise, stench, and hazardous waste. Position drives specialized heavy trucks and may work in adverse weather conditions and extreme temperatures. Assists with litter cleanup; Position may work after hours, weekends, and holidays. Position works independently requiring self-discipline toplete tasks. Essential Functions (Major Duties or Responsibilities) Position requires ability to drive a truck with trailer; perform minor maintenance on truck and trailer;municate verbally; visually inspect areas; lift heavy objects weighing up to 80 pounds; do welding; pick up litter; climb into containers if necessary; hear customers and approaching equipment. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge This position requires a knowledge of operation and capabilities of trucks; knowledge of light repair and maintenance of specialized heavy equipment; basic knowledge of hazardous waste screening and accident prevention, safety procedures in working with waste and near equipment, and record keeping. Skills This position requires skills in safely operating trucks and heavy equipment; repairs and maintenance; identifying unacceptable waste. Abilities This position requires the ability to follow safety procedures; maintain accurate records; work in adverse weather conditions; work independently;municate effectively; follow verbal and written instructions; establish effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, and the public.
