Shuttle Driver / Rental Operator

The Haw River Canoe & Kayak Company runs kayaking, canoeing, and tubing trips on the Haw River, many of which are downriver trips that require a shuttle, either at the beginning or end of the trip. We're looking for a shuttle driver who's a recreation enthusiast, wants to work outdoors all weekend, and will connect our guests with nature in a way that's safe and fun!

Job Details Seasonal:

We operate April through October, with peak operations June - August.

Part-Time:

Most of our business is on the weekends. Weekday work may also be available, but only during peak season.

Usual Hours:

8:00am - 6:00pm on Saturdays & Sundays.

Main Location:

Saxapahaw, NC Primary Duties Our shuttle drivers are responsible for the shuttled paddling or tubing trips that we run. A typical trip involves the following: Navigating our booking app (Fareharbor) to check details on the trip and its guests. Driving a 15-passenger van with a boat trailer up to 20 miles. Loading & unloading up to 16 boats from the trailer. You will usually have help loading boats but may have to unload on your own. Instructing guests on the details of their trip, including basic safety and paddling skills. We also expect our shuttle drivers to look after the wellbeing of our vans & trailers, including: Checking vehicle fluids & lights daily. Watching for & reporting any developing vehicle issues. Always ensuring boats are tied securely to the trailer. Removing trash and keeping up vehicle cleanliness. When shuttled trips aren't running, our shuttle drivers usually pivot to assisting with other rental operations, such as Sax Lake rentals. Additional Work Opportunities All of our employees are welcome to participate as assistant guides on guided paddle trips, which we run at a minimum once a weekend in the evenings. We also love to serve as a platform for employees to build their dream outdoor recreation programs. Requirements To qualify for this position, candidates must: Be at least 21 years old Have a valid driver's license (a CDL is not required) Have a clean driving record Have experience driving large vans and pulling trailers Be able to lift at least 35 pounds Bonus Qualifications An ideal candidate: Is a safe, cautious driver Is an outdoor recreation enthusiast with a deep love of nature Has experience paddling, whitewater experience is a plus Has current certification in First Aid & CPR Is an honest, motivated worker with a positive attitude Can work independently while coordinating with a team Is available to work weekends and holidays from spring to fall
