Job Description

Overview We are seeking a dedicated Yard Driver to join our logistics and transportation team. In this role, you will be responsible for safely operating various commercial vehicles within our yard and on designated routes, ensuring the efficient movement of freight and equipment. The ideal candidate will possess strong driving skills, adhere strictly to safety protocols, and demonstrate excellent customer service. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to smooth yard operations while maintaining high safety standards and operational efficiency. Duties Operate a variety of commercial vehicles including trucks, vans, flatbeds, and shuttle buses within the yard and on over-the-road routes. Load and unload freight using pallet jacks, forklifts, or manual handling techniques while following safe lifting practices. Navigate using GPS systems and adhere to traffic regulations during route driving, including heavy haul, tanker, or paratransit operations. Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure mechanical safety and report any issues promptly. Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, vehicle condition, and freight movement using mobile devices or fleet tracking systems. Move equipment and freight efficiently around the yard or warehouse facility, ensuring proper stacking and organization. Communicate effectively with dispatchers, warehouse staff, and customers to coordinate pickups and deliveries. Drive in adverse weather conditions while maintaining safety standards and operational integrity. Support fleet maintenance by reporting mechanical concerns and assisting with routine vehicle checks. Follow all safety protocols during loading/unloading activities and when operating heavy equipment such as forklifts or tow trucks. Qualifications Proven experience operating commercial vehicles such as tractor-trailers, box trucks, dump trucks, or shuttle buses. Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with necessary endorsements (air brake certification preferred). Demonstrated knowledge of GPS navigation systems and fleet GPS tracking tools. Ability to operate manual transmissions, pickup trucks, flatbeds, tanker trucks, and other specialized vehicles. Familiarity with safety regulations including adherence to traffic laws, safe lifting practices, and heavy equipment operation. Strong communication skills for effective coordination with team members and customers. Experience in warehouse environments or logistics operations is advantageous. Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and work in various weather conditions. Mechanical knowledge for basic vehicle troubleshooting is a plus. This position is integral to maintaining efficient yard operations while prioritizing safety at all times. $25.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
