Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated Yard Spotter to join our logistics and transportation team. The Yard Spotter plays a vital role in efficiently maneuvering tractor-trailers within the yard, ensuring seamless loading, unloading, and repositioning of freight. This position requires a highly attentive individual capable of operating various types of trailers, including refrigerated, flatbed, and tanker units, while adhering strictly to safety and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will contribute to maintaining smooth yard operations, supporting delivery schedules, and upholding safety compliance across all activities. Duties Safely maneuver tractor-trailers within the yard environment, including refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, and tankers. Assist with the loading and unloading of freight, ensuring proper handling of hazardous materials and dangerous goods in accordance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations. Use GPS navigation systems to accurately position trailers for pickup or delivery routes. Coordinate with drivers and warehouse personnel to optimize trailer placement and availability. Perform routine inspections of trailers for damage or safety issues before movement. Maintain accurate records of trailer locations and movements within the yard. Support truck loading and unloading processes by guiding drivers during cargo handling operations. Ensure compliance with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations, hazardous materials regulations, and other safety protocols during all yard activities. Skills Proven experience operating commercial trucks, including tractor-trailers with manual transmissions. Familiarity with logistics cargo handling, truck loading/unloading, and freight management. Knowledge of refrigerated trailer operation and equipment handling. Ability to navigate using GPS navigation tools effectively. Understanding of over-the-road (OTR) driving routes and route driving principles. Strong awareness of FMCSA regulations, DOT standards, and hazardous materials regulations. Skilled in manual handling techniques for safe cargo movement. Excellent communication skills to coordinate with drivers, warehouse staff, and management. Ability to adhere strictly to safety procedures while managing hazardous or dangerous goods. Prior delivery driver experience is advantageous for understanding delivery processes and route planning.
