Job Description

Kent Animal Shelter seeks a permanent part time Kennel Attendant to care for its shelter dogs. The Kennel Attendant will be responsible for providing compassionate and attentive care for the animals at all times. As a Kennel Attendant you will ensure the general health and wellness of the animals as you assist them in finding quality homes. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assisting the public during the adoption process, feeding the animals, cleaning and disinfecting dog kennels and assisting with other duties as needed. Applicants must have a genuine desire to improve the lives of homeless pets.
Responsibilities:
Daily, thorough cleaning of all animal areas. Feeding and providing water for the animals, including providing special diets as needed. Monitoring the health of the animals on an ongoing basis. Medicating animals as directed Assessing the temperament of the dogs to facilitate finding the best possible placement for each individual animal. Doing laundry, dishes, cleaning and mopping kennel areas as needed. Maintaining a friendly demeanor and providing high quality customer service while assisting the public.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE, ABILITIES AND QUALITIES REQUIRED
•Weekends are required. •Must be at least 21 years of age and have a violation free NYS driver's license. Must be able to drive transport van and be willing to pick up/drop off dogs for transports and for medical appointments. Animal Sheltering or kennel experience preferred. Previous Customer Service skills preferred. Flexibility, ability to manage multiple tasks. Ability and initiative, work with minimal supervision and direction. Knowledge of animal behavior and common medical conditions preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to routinely lift up to 50 pounds without assistance. Must be able to work in all weather conditions Must be able to perform strenuous physical activity on a daily basis and be capable of consistently performing the job for a minimum of a full 8-hr day. Must be able to perform strenuous physical activity on a daily basis, including, but not limited to: lifting and carrying, reaching, stooping, squatting, cleaning and bending.
