SUMMARY:

The ambulance operator is responsible to provide high quality emergency transportation to sick and injured patients.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Respond promptly to dispatched calls and provide patient transport support Perform pre-shift ambulance inspections (fuel, fluids, equipment) and report maintenance needs Maintain proper inventory and stocking of medical and first aid supplies Assist patients safely onto stretchers and into/out of the ambulance Provide basic first aid care (bandaging, splinting, oxygen administration) Clean, sanitize, and maintain ambulance interior/exterior; properly dispose of medical waste and soiled linens Accurately document patient transports, mileage, and services in daily driving logs Communicate and report incident details to medical personnel and law enforcement as needed Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and readiness of equipment Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

BLS required at hire, If not AHA, must obtain AHA BLS within 3 months of hire Valid Driver's License High School diploma or

GED PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum two years' driving an ambulance

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Staff must repeatedly enter and exit vehicles, occasionally lift and carry equipment weighing up to 100 lbs. or more, and perform care within patients' homes or other confined, unpredictable, or uncontrolled environments. These positions demand strong fine and gross motor control, firm grasping, and heightened visual and auditory awareness to ensure safe and effective care delivery. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial due to rapid decision-making, direct exposure to critical or sensitive situations, and independently managing patient care in the field or home setting. Environmental exposures may include traffic hazards, infectious agents, extreme temperatures, variable home conditions, and hazardous materials. Valid licensure, physical readiness, and flexibility for extended or on-call schedules are typically required.
