MAILROOM LABORER/DRIVER

The Mailroom Laborer/Driver supports the newspaper production and distribution process by assisting with the handling, preparation, packaging and movement of newspapers. This position performs general mailroom and production. The position requires dependable attendance, the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced production environment and flexibility to work evenings and overnight hours.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist with the setup and operation of mailroom and newspaper-inserting equipment. Load newspapers, advertising inserts and other printed materials into production equipment. Stack, bundle, label, sort and prepare newspapers and commercial print products for distribution. Verify quantities, delivery routes, labels and packaging information for accuracy. Load and unload newspapers, inserts, supplies and other materials from vehicles, carts, pallets and production equipment. Deliver newspapers using personal vehicle. Follow assigned delivery schedules and obtain delivery confirmation when required. Perform routine cleaning and general housekeeping throughout the mailroom and production areas. Assist with minor equipment adjustments and report equipment problems to a supervisor. Follow all company safety procedures, traffic laws and vehicle-use policies. Perform other related duties as needed.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience in a mailroom, warehouse, manufacturing, distribution or production environment is helpful but not required. Valid drivers license and an acceptable driving record are required. Ability to safely operate material-handling equipment. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Basic math and counting skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Dependable attendance and punctuality.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to bend, reach, twist, push, pull and perform repetitive movements. Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift heavier materials with assistance. Ability to work around moving machinery, production noise, paper dust and varying temperatures. Ability to safely enter and exit delivery vehicles and load or unload printed materials.

Work Environment:

Work is primarily performed in a newspaper production and mailroom environment. Some duties require driving and working outdoors in varying weather and road conditions. Appropriate safety procedures and personal protective equipment must be used when required.

Employment Requirements:

Employment may be contingent upon verification of a valid drivers license, an acceptable motor vehicle record and the successful completion of any company-required background screening or pre-employment testing.

Salary:
