Job Summary A growing scrap metal recycling facility is seeking a dependable, safety-focused CDL Driver / Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. This is a full-time, contract-to-hire opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work and a variety of responsibilities. The position combines commercial driving, heavy equipment operation, material handling, customer assistance, and general yard operations. Candidates must have a valid Class A CDL and be able to safely operate a manual transmission CDL truck. Experience operating forklifts, loaders, excavators, cranes, material handlers, or similar heavy equipment is preferred. Training on additional equipment will be provided. We are looking for someone who is dependable, safety-conscious, willing to learn, and comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial environment. Responsibilities Safely operate CDL vehicles, including manual transmission trucks, in accordance with DOT regulations and company safety standards Transport scrap metal and recyclable materials throughout the yard and to designated locations Load, unload, sort, and process recyclable materials safely and efficiently Assist customers with unloading scrap materials Operate forklifts, loaders, excavators, cranes, material handlers, and other heavy equipment as needed Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle and equipment inspections Maintain accurate driving logs and equipment inspection records Report equipment maintenance needs and safety concerns promptly Keep the yard clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards Perform general labor and yard duties as needed to support daily operations Qualifications Valid Class A CDL required Must be able to operate a manual transmission CDL truck Previous commercial driving experience required Heavy equipment operating experience preferred Experience with forklifts, loaders, excavators, cranes, material handlers, or similar equipment is a plus Experience in scrap metal recycling, construction, manufacturing, warehousing, or industrial environments is preferred Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn new equipment Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Ability to safely lift, move, and handle materials Dependable attendance and strong work ethic Ability to work effectively as part of a team Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality Job Details Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-4:30 PM Full-Time Benefits Contract-to-hire opportunity with long-term career potential Stable, full-time employment Monday-Friday schedule Paid on-the-job training Equipment training and certification opportunities Retirement plan with employer contribution Opportunities for advancement and career growth Supportive, team-oriented work environment Compensation Starting at $25.00 per hour and up, depending on experience (DOE) #
